5 Exercises you can do in your hotel room

Some of you may be lucky enough to be on holiday still, but for those grinding away at work, squeezing in an exercise session can be a challenge. We scouted out the best quickie workouts you can do from the comfort of your hotel room, guesthouse or even the boardroom!

The prop: a towel

The exercise: Slippery slope mountain climbers

Set up for this exercise by getting on your hands and knees with hands slightly in front of your shoulders. Bring your left foot forward and place it on a small towel on the floor under your chest. Extend your right foot behind you, toes on another small towel. This is your starting position (a). The move: Keep hands on the ground as you push out your left foot behind you as you simultaneously bring in your right foot in (b). Continue sliding back and forth between each leg for 10 to 12 reps per leg; repeat for 2 to 3 sets.

The prop: your bed

The exercise: Side leg lift

Lie on your side on the bed, supporting yourself on your elbow, with your other arm placed in front of you on the bed. Cross your left leg over your right, and straighten your right leg. Now, raise and lower your leg 15 times. Swop sides and repeat. Three sets are recommended.

The prop: a chair

The exercise: Seated jacks

Sit tall with knees bent and together, feet pointed with toes lightly touching the floor, elbows bent and arms open to sides with palms facing forward. Quickly open legs out to sides, flexing feet, landing on heels, and extending arms overhead. Return to start. Do 30 quick reps in a row (the faster your tempo, the harder you'll work).

The prop: a table

The exercise: Table rows

Pull yourself upwards towards the tabletop as illustrated in the image. Rows are a very effective back exercise and this is probably the closest you’ll get to doing them on the road.

The prop: a wall

The exercise: Leg wall sit

If you are anywhere near a wall then you have all you need to destroy your quadriceps with this intense exercise. There isn’t much to explain, but if you can’t do one leg, do two.
